Prairie Inn Harriers set to host BC XC Championships 2019-2020
BC Athletics is proud to announce the 2019-2020 BC Cross Country Championships will be hosted by the Prairie Inn Harriers Club. The event will take place at Beaver Lake, outside Victoria, BC on Saturday October 26th.
The Cross Country Provincial Championships will run multiple loops of a course approximately 2km. With varied terrain of grass, mud and path, the course will traverse hills and through the woods of Beaver Lake. The multiple lap nature of the race makes the event very spectator friendly. Athletes are divided into age categories with distances applicable to each age group. Nine year olds will run 1.5km, while the Senior (20+) athletes will run 8km. The event will serve as the qualifier to select athletes to represent BC Athletics on our Provincial Team at the National Championships in November.
“The Beaver Lake course will offer competitors a challenging course and the Prairie Inn Harriers have a great track record of hosting Provincial Championships in both Road and Cross Country.” Clifton Cunningham, Technical Manager Road & Cross Country, BC Athletics. “Our objective is to give our members the best opportunity to compete, to select a strong team to represent British Columbia at Nationals, and to showcase our sport and athletes in a well-run event.”
“It’s great for the Prairie Inn Harriers Club to have the opportunity to host the BC Championships in the clubs 41st Anniversary year.” Bob Reid, Race Director and Club Registrar. “We know the Beaver Lake course is going to be a great mix of rolling fields and forested sections that will test the competitors.”
