Membership
Who can be a BC Athletics member?
BC Athletics Membership Eligibility:
- Canadian Citizens
- Landed Immigrants
- An individual claiming refugee status – as relates to AC Rule 086 b)
- A foreign athlete who is a temporary resident of British Columbia due to business, study or family reasons – as relates to AC Rule 086 b)
And meets one of the following:
- Lives in British Columbia; or
- Lives temporarily outside of BC for School or Personal/Partner work related reasons; or
- Lives outside of Canada;
As a Branch of Athletics Canada, BC Athletics adheres to AC Policies and Rules relative to membership for those living in Canada.
- AC Rule 027: Applications to become Associates of Athletics Canada shall be made to the Member Branch to which the person's club is affiliated. Individuals not attached to a club shall apply to the Member Branch in whose territory they reside (have permanent residence in).
I have a training membership. Do I get a discount at sanctioned races?
You have to be an compettive athlete member to get the discounts (see membership info). Your training membership does not entitle you to the discounts. You can upgrade your membership at any time by submitting a new membership form and paying the difference.
How is age determined for memberships?
Your age category is determined by the age you will be on December 31st in the year of competition. As an example, in 2024 someone born December 30, 2010 is U16 (age 14) for all competitions held between January 1st and December 31st, 2024.
When do memberships expire each year?
Individual Memberships expire on December 31st each year.
Starting in 2012: Exception - first time BC Athletics members applying for membership after August 31st will receive an extended membership valid from the application date through to the end of the following year. Age is calculated as of December 31st in the following year.
Renewing BC Athletics members who were not members in the previous membership year and apply after August 31st will receive and extended membership valid from the application date through to the end of the following year. Age is calculated as of December 31st in the following year.
Club Memberships expire December 31st each year.
School Club and School District memberships run from September 15th through to the end of the school year - June 30th or the end of the Jack Brow Meet - whichever is later.
Within an BCA affiliated club, who needs to be an individual member of BC Athletics?
All individual members of a BC Athletics affiliated club must hold an individual membership with the Association.
