Rules of participation
Participants in the Relay must be a minimum of 16 on event day (19 if undertaking 2 loops).
Participants in the Ultra must be a minimum of 19 on event day.
Participation in both the Ultra and Relay events is not allowed.
Participants are allowed to transfer their place until September 30th via RaceRoster for a $10.50 payment (plus fees and taxes). Anyone caught running with someone else’s bib will be removed from the event and both members will be banned from future editions of the event.
Teams must have all team members confirmed by package pickup.
Teams must have the running order legs confirmed by timing chip pickup at 6:30am on Race Day.
Team members may run a maximum distance of 20km each – this can be completed as 2 consecutive loops or broken out into two 10k loops with other team members running in between. (Please ensure this is reflected on your running order sheet).
No support is to be provided to participants outside of the Olympic Plaza (beyond Blackcomb way)- Friends and Family are welcome to provide drinks and snacks to runners within the plaza area.
No pacers on foot or bikes are allowed at the event.
Headphones are not to be worn at the event. An Ear bud in one ear only, or bone conducting headphones such as Shox are permitted. This is for your safety due to wildlife on the trails and the ability to hear marshal/ event officials instructions. Warnings will be issued with the potential for disqualification.
Due to wildlife around the venue and trails, Participants seen littering “accidentally” will be given a warning, if seen deliberately littering a DNF or ejection is handed out.
The on-course Aid station (5k) will only provide Hydration (due to local wildlife). Please ensure you are prepared for this. The Aid station will have trash facilities available for you to discard any personal wrappers/garbage, as well as within Whistler Village at the Exchange tent or Ultra Tent.
All teams are required to provide a volunteer to ensure the safe running of the event. Teams whose volunteers do not show on event day risk punishment/sanction.
The course will be closed at 5pm. Ultra runners who have not started their final loop by 3pm will be cut at the end of their current loop.
Team’s whose final member/s has not started their loop by 3:45pm will have any remaining members “Force started” and their final timing adjusted accordingly post event.
Access to the post race party area is available to spectators and participants, you will be wrist banded on entry – ID will be needed if you wish to drink.
BC Athletics ruling/ decision on awards or disqualification is final.
Awards Rules and Criteria
A participant is classified as a “Masters” if they are aged 35 or older on the day of the event.
Ultra athletes will be automatically assigned category by their age on event day.
Team specific
Teams cannot qualify for more than 1 award/criteria. You will be asked to pick the category you wish to participate in at registration and cannot change this once package pickup closes on Friday evening.
The Relay “OPEN” categories (for Relay runners only) allows for a mixture of ages to participate together.
The Masters categories (for Relay runners ) must contain team members ALL age 35 and older.
Teams must have a minimum of 25% of each gender to be in the Mixed category.
Please note: At this time teams of 4 and teams of 8 share awards categories (we hope to expand this in future years as we see more teams of 4 compete!)
Team members can only complete a maximum of 20km each.

Refund Policy
- There are no refunds offered by BC Athletics/Whistler50.
- Refunds can ONLY be processed for anyone who selects the optional Race Roster Enhanced Refund Protection Program during their initial registration (this cannot be added later). Details here.
This process is managed by Race Roster and NOT Whistler 50/ BC Athletics – any queries are to be directed to Race Roster. - You CAN transfer your entry to another person via the transfer link on the registration page using the “Transfer” button above. There will be a $10.50 transfer fee (includes tax). Transfers MUST be completed by September 30th and must remain in the same sub-event (e.g. they cannot switch from Ultra to Relay).
BC Athletics reserves the right to cancel Whistler 50 or to change the route on short notice due to fire bans/fire closures, air quality, weather conditions, wildlife or safety concerns, pandemic, unforeseen construction, Acts of God or other such reasons with no reimbursement to the participant.
In the case of event cancellation by BC Athletics, no refunds will be available.
For cancellations more than 2 months before the event, entries will be transferred to the next available date that the event is able to operate.
If cancelled less than 2 months before the event, deferral credit will be offered to the next edition of the event with reduced value (e.g. not 100% of the next edition’s entry fee).
