Congratulations to our 2020 Whistler 50 Virtual Relay & Ultra Participants!

From November 21 to 29 teams, and some very staunch ultra runners, assembled virtually for the 2020 Whistler 50 Virtual Relay & Ultra. Over 185 runners from across Canada took part in this year’s event including Teams from the Lower Mainland, Kelowna, Kamloops, Victoria, Hope, Toronto, and even the Yukon!

Big congratulations to all of Ultra Runners who took part this year, with special mention to our 50km Solo Ultra winners Tim Moore and Margreet Dietz from Duncan who, in completing their 50km run, ran from Cowichan Lake to Port Renfrew!

Runners were keen to get going, with the first Ultra 50km being completed within just 7 hours of the time period opening. Andy Bachman started his run at 2:52am and was finished at just minutes past 8:00am.

50 mile (80km) runners Conrad Easby and Nick Hopewell, finished their runs in 11h15m and 13h12m respectively and, their Strava maps looked like scribbles across a map as they worked hard to fit the distance into the Lower Mainland.

In the relay we saw the VIRTUAL HONEY BUCKETS take home the virtual relay championship. The all male team finished in 5h21m, anchored by Justin Kent of the BC Endurance Project, with the top 10km time of 30:37! Second place and top mixed team was STREAMLINE ATHLETES with 6h27m while the Top All Female team was the WILL RUN FOR DONUTS TEAM with a 8h40m time. The top individual female runner was Natalia Hawthorn on the Streamline Athletes team, with a 38:01.

Special shout out to Evan Fagan of RUNNING WITH FRIENDS, Evan turns 84 this winter and we’re pretty sure hasn’t missed one Whistler 50 Relay!

All prizes will be drawn this week and winners will be contacted individually. We’ll begin mailing out the hats to everyone this week too!
