Wilf Wedmann - Olympian, Scholar, Coach, Sport Leader
Wilf Wedmann – 1948-2021
BC Athletics remembers Wilf Wedmann an Olympian, Scholar, Coach, Sport Leader and more. Wilf’s influence on Athletics in British Columbia was significant and continues to this day. As a member of the Board of Directors and Chair of BC Athletics (then BC Track & Field Association) Wilf was instrumental in updating governance and processes in all aspects of the Association. One of those initiatives was to formally change the name to BC Athletics – which aligned with the international name for the sport and the inclusion of Track & Field, Road and Cross Country Running, Race Walking, Marathons, evolving to now include Ultra, Mountain & Trail Running.
Wilf’s energy was not just in the sport arena as he was a firm advocate for social and societal change and the importance of inclusion, equity and fairness. He challenged the norms, pushed the boundaries and advocated for policies, rules and legislation that in the end made for an equal opportunity playing field. He challenged colleagues, friends and staff to think outside the box and the blinders that confine – to grow opportunities and in the end results.
Thank you Wilf for your dedication and commitment to Society and Athletics.
