Track and Field Manager Announced
BC Athletics is thrilled to announce the hiring of a new Track & Field Program Manager! Congratulations to Garrett Collier for accepting the role, effective Wednesday October 11, 2023.
Garrett is no stranger to the Track & Field Manager role, as he held the role from 2011-2015. He departed BC Athletics in 2015 to pursue full time coaching opportunities as Head Coach of the Kajaks Track & Field Club, Assistant Coach (Throws) for the UBC Thunderbirds, and coach of the BC Wheel Chair Sports Seated Throws Program. Garrett has supported numerous athletes to BC Provincial Teams and Canadian National Teams, including Rowan Hamilton to the 2022 and 2023 World Athletics Championship teams in the hammer throw. Additionally, he has continued to support BC Athletics as a Lead Coach for the BC Throws Project and on the Board of Directors as the Director of Programs and Technical Development.
"I'm extremely excited to be returning to BC Athletics as the program manager for Track & Field," Collier stated. "As we turn the page to start a new chapter in the association, I'm looking forward to working alongside our amazing staff and passionate membership to move our sport forward and build on the strong tradition of Track & Field we have here in the province of BC."
Garrett is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley. Following his collegiate throwing career, he was an Assistant Coach (Throws) at the University of Hawaii from 2002-2006, and then the Associate Head Coach from 2006-2011, before relocating back to Richmond, BC. Since 2011, Garrett has been a leader in the province in facilitating new ideas for advancing both able body and para track & field opportunities. We are excited to have Garrett back at BC Athletics to lead the Track and Field portfolio and support our member clubs and athletes.
