Announcement of New BC Athletics CEO - Megann VanderVliet

 

The BC Athletics Board of Directors is excited to announce the appointment of Megann VanderVliet to the position of BC Athletics Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective June 15, 2023. 

 

Megann will take the reins of the organization following the retirement of Brian McCalder this month. Brian’s time in our sport and with BC Athletics has been uniquely influential, and he leaves an organization that is financially healthy with a growing membership base and strong demand for more events in all parts of our sport. 

 

Megann has built a well-earned reputation within our sport community in her current position as BC Athletics Program Manager for Track & Field. She brings a passion for the sport, and for people, to her work; a passion that was reflected in her vision for the organization and our membership that has investment in people at its core. 

 

Megann has been in the BC Athletics Track & Field Program Manager role since February 2021. Prior to her appointment at BC Athletics, Megann spent almost 5 years in a leadership role at lululemon and during that time completed her Master of Arts in Leadership Studies at Royal Roads Univeristy. 

 

In addition to her professional experience, Megann became a member of BC Athletics in 2007, when she relocated to Kamloops to train with Dr. Anatoliy Bondarchuk at the Kamloops Track & Field Club in the hammer throw. Between 2008-2019, she had the opportunity to represent BC on a number of Senior Provincial Teams  and achieved two National Team appointments, where she was a finalist in the 2009 Jeux de la Francophonie and 2010 Commonwealth Games.
